MALEM®
Bed-Mat and Enuresis Alarms
Revolutionary
MALEM® interchangeable wetness detection mat and alarms, all
at a sensible price!
The
MALEM® Bed-Mat is a foil embossed plastic mat that
fits between the sheets over the mattress. The MALEM® Bed-Mat
is an alternative to the MALEM® body-worn wetness sensor
that has been supplied with MALEM® alarms over the past
25 years with established success. Some advisors do
still prefer the use of wetness mats placed in the bed. Individuals
can now select, with
little extra expense, from the alternatives of a "Bell and Pad"
alarm and the long established MALEM® body-worn bedwetting
alarms. The MALEM® Bed-Mat, unlike some bed mats, can be easily
cleaned, dried and replaced. The MALEM® Bed-Mat is an improvement
on many of the other bed mats that are available from other manufacturers
and is priced lower than most. The MALEM® Bed-Mat
has the fantastic advantage of being able to link to any of the
MALEM® alarms, making it much less expensive for those
who do prefer a bed-mat to a body-warn wetness sensor. The MALEM®
Bed-Mat, when used with a MALEM® alarm, is interchangeable
with the MALEM® body-worn wetness sensor. Users can, as a
result of this interchangeability, compare a body-worn wetness
sensor or
a bed mat without changing the alarm unit.. With the MALEM®
Bed-Mat or with the MALEM® body-worn wetness sensor there is
a choice of three auditory units (Red, Green or Orange) providing
three alternative single sounds. The MALEM® Multitone
Alarm Unit (Yellow) provides eight (8) alternative sounds from
the
same unit. The vibrating alarm can be
placed in or under the pillow and the sound and flashing light
alarms placed on or beside the bed.
The
MALEM® Bed-Mat is available as a separate item or may be purchased
with any of the MALEM® Alarms. All the auditory (noise) and
visual MALEM® alarms that connect with the MALEM® Bed-Mat
are the same price. The vibratory MALEM® alarm costs more
due to the extra costs in manufacture.
If
an auditory (noise) alarm is required to assist with the management
of bedwetting a single tone alarm (which also has a flashing light
visual signal) is suggested to those who may not have the experience
to make a choice. The full range of MALEM® alarms and the sounds
they make can be considered on the Web using the links provided
to MALEM® Medical.
It
is suggested that if you are contemplating the purchase of a
bed
mat that you try both a MALEM® body-worn wetness sensor
as well as a MALEM® Bed-Mat, if you have not already had experience
with the MALEM® body-worn wetness sensor as an alternative
to a bed mat. Surveys indicate that the majority of parents
and
children prefer MALEM® body worn alarms and wetness sensors
to the bed-mats previously on the market. The Enuresis Advisory
Service, Malem®/Medstat® and MALEM® Medical will be
interested in more comments from those with experience of both,
especially from those who use the MALEM® Bed-Mat - which has
only recently been made available for purchase.
To
use the MALEM® body-worn wetness sensor follow the instructions
that are supplied with the MALEM® alarms, and also read
the advice given
in the current issue of the Newsletter - available from the menu
below.
To
use the MALEM® Bed-Mat place the mat over the mattress in the
area which is usually wet and tie the mat down. Cover the
Bed-Mat with a clean dry sheet and make up the bed. Attach the Bed-Mat
wire to the chosen MALEM® Alarm and place the alarm on or beside
the bed, on a tin box if extra noise is needed. The Vibrating alarm
when used with a bed mat should be placed in or under the pillow.
When the Bed-Mat is wet from urine the alarm will sound (or vibrate)
and wake up the child. The alarm sound or vibration) can be
stopped ONLY when the Bed-Mat wire is disconnected from the alarm
and the reset button is pressed. The Bed-Mat should then be
wiped clean and dried and then replaced in a freshly made bed as
before for reuse.
